The Directorate for Mine Action, one of the directorates of Ministry of Health and Environment, participated in the senior management workshop of gender in mine action which organized by UNMAS in Baghdad.

The Director General of DMA, Eng.Dhafir Mahmood, said that the workshop in which representatives of Ministries of Defense and Interior participated, included a scientific lecture presented by the official of gender team in his directorate, Mrs. Saleema Inseel Karam, who explained the concepts of gender and include it in the response of mines and ERWs dangers.

Mahmood added that the workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, one of them mainstreaming the gender at different levels of the national mine action program to ensure an effective and comprehensive response of mine action, as well as the need of woman participation in decision-making in security and peace programs at all levels in addition to the importance of promoting the positive part of woman and man who working in the field of coordination and experiences exchange.
