Directorate for Mine Action: technical meeting with the Department of Grand Faw port project in Basra
The Directorate for Mine Action, one of the directorates of the Ministry of Health and Environment, held a technical meeting with the Department of Grand Faw port project in the RMAC-South in Basra province.
The Director General of DMA, Eng. Dhafir Mahmood, said that the meeting, which was attended by a representative of the Military Engineering Directorate / Ministry of Defense, included a technical presentation presented by the head of RMAC-South, Eng. Nibras Fakhir, on the reality of contamination in the southern provinces in which he referred to the clearance about (28) million square meter in Basra province, (14) million square meter in Missan province and (12) million square meter in Al-Muthana province, pointing out that Basra province has the first rank in the world in terms of the areas contaminated with unexploded mines, as the total areas amounted one billion and (271) million square meter. It was presented the most important challenges that face the technical works of the Department of Grand Faw port project in terms of areas contaminated with mines and ERWs in addition to the discussion of the mechanisms of mutual technical cooperation between the supportive governmental entities and organizations and companies working within the national mine action program in Iraq.
