The Directorate for Mine Action carried out an awareness campaign on the dangers of mines and cluster bombs in Al-Najaf province.

The Director General of DMA, Eng.Dhafir Mahmood, said that the campaign that carried out by the staff of RMAC-Middle Euphrates in cooperation with Awareness and Media Department/DMA, included areas in Al-Radawiya Subdistrict and Al-Ruhba area, where the awareness sessions were presented to the people and farmers’ families, as well as presenting awareness sessions and distributing media supplies to the students of Al-Ruhba Elementary  School which include posters and educational  leaflets that showed the dangers of tampering with mines, cluster bombs and ERWs which are remnants of war that Iraq faced it in 1991.

Mahmood added that the staff of RMAC-Middle Euphrates had previously started with the work of updating NTS in Al-Najaf province in coordination with Civil Defense Directorate and Al-Najaf Environment Directorate which confirmed the existence of three dangerous areas with an area (4,949,164) square meter in addition to registering four new dangerous areas with (2,583) square meter in Al-Najaf district.
