The Directorate for Mine Action held a technical meeting with the Danish Ambassador in Iraq (Gret Meinecke) and his accompanying delegation to discuss the mechanisms to support the national mine action program, at the headquarters of Ministry of Environment in Baghdad.

The Director General of DMA, Eng. Dhafir Mahmood, said that the meeting included discussing the Danish government’s support mechanisms for the activities and works of Iraqi national mine action program represented by the works of survey and demining in the liberated areas from ISIS terrorist gangs under the cooperation and coordination between Iraq and United Nations Mine Action Services, and it was reviewed the reality of contamination with mines and cluster munitions in Iraq whether in the southern governorates or in the liberated areas.

Mahmood added that the meeting also included discussing the preparations to start the project of survey the mine victims in Nineveh  governorate and discussing the necessary needs to support this important segment of society as well as explaining the importance of demining works that would reduce the injuries among civilians, in addition to reviewing the efforts made by the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Interior in supporting the activities of national mine action program through field demining and train the national staff in their specialized institutions which contribute in capacity-building in this field.
