The Directorate for Mine Action, one of the formations of the Ministry of Environment, organized a two-days workshop to include the topics of mines, explosive remnants of war and cluster munitions risk education in school curricula and within the activities of preparing the national mine action strategy in Iraq, at the headquarters of directorate in Baghdad.
The Director General of DMA, Eng.Dhafir Mahmood, said that the workshop that was supported by UNMAS and attended by heads of (Awareness and Media, Victim Assistance, Administrative and Financial Affairs) departments as well as representatives from Ministry of Education and IKMAA, included a presentation explain the importance and role of mine risk education activities and the role of teacher in educating the school students in the affected areas of these risks.
Mahmood added that the inclusion of EORE topics in the school curricula will ensure the awareness of students within ages 6-16 years for both sexes, as these various awareness topics will be included by specialized experts in the Ministry of Education within ( science, social, islamic education) specializations.
