On Wednesday, at HQ of Kirkuk governorate, the Director General of DMA, Eng. Dhafir Mahmood Khallaf, met Kirkuk’s Governor, Mr.Rakan Saeed Al-Jubori, and the director of UNMAS, Mr. Pehr Lodhammer, and discussed with them the priorities of mine action in the governorate.

A statement issued by DMA, indicated that during the meeting, they discussed the necessity to identify the governorate’s priorities and the most affected and contaminated areas in governorate, in addition to discussing the issue of governmental and international funding for the various projects of mine action.

From his part, Al-Jubori indicated that there is a border strip of (80) KM length that is completely contaminated with IEDs and unexploded ordnance, pointed out at the same time that there is about (138) villages destroyed as a result of the recent war of liberation.

From his part, the director of UNMAS clarified the continuation of his international efforts towards providing more international financial support and grants, which are supposed to direct it for the works of clearance in Kirkuk governorate or other Iraqi governorates.
