Under the auspices of His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Eng. Nizar Amidi, the Directorate for Mine Action organized field visits to study the dimensions of sustainable development related to the activities and work of the National Mine Action Program in Iraq.

From his part, Mr. Bakir Sahib Ahmed, who is the in charge Director General of DMA, said that the field visits organized by DMA of a technical team representing GICHD within the framework of the project (Beyond Square Meters BSM), which includes a study of the dimensions of sustainable development related to the activities and works of the National Mine Action Program in Iraq in the economic, agricultural, health, educational and other fields of life.

Ahmed added that the field visits included the University of Mosul, Al-Hamdania and Tel Kaif districts in Nineveh Governorate, Karma and Fallujah districts in Anbar Governorate, as well as Basmaya residential compound in Baghdad Governorate to view the reality of sustainability of those areas after conducting survey, clearance and land release that are free from contamination of mines and ERW.

It is noteworthy that the Directorate for Mine Action continues its supervisory and coordinating efforts for the activities and work of the National Mine Action Program in Iraq in accordance with national and international mine action standards.
