Director General of DMA, on the marginal of NDM-UN26 held in Geneva, met international organizations concerned with mine action and assistance .. June 23, 2023
The Director General of DMA, Dr. Sabah Hassan Al-Hussaini, met in Geneva, and on the marginal of NDM-UN26, the officials and advisors of the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) organization, Mr. Staniar Eisen, and the Regional Director in the Middle East of ICRC, Mr. Faber Izio Carboni, and discussed with them individually supporting Iraq's efforts and endeavors at the level of various mine action activities.
From his part, the official spokesman of DMA stated that Dr. Al-Hussaini's first meeting was with officials and advisors of NPA, who discussed the organization's work currently being implemented in Iraq and aspects of expanding work and technical capabilities that this organization can provide at the level of information software development, capacity building and quality systems as well as the use of modern technologies in the detection of mines and other war munitions, pointing out that the other meeting was with the Global Adviser for Mine Action and Development at UNDP, Mr.Staniar Eisen, they discussed the role of UNDP to support Iraq’s efforts at the level of demining, capacity building and future plans, which would contribute to reducing the risks of mines, ERW and cluster bombs, at a time when the advisor of UNDP emphasized the work mechanisms and capabilities provided by the program in this field, pledging to seriously support Iraq in this important humanitarian file.
On the other hand, the Director General of DMA, Dr. Al-Hussaini, accompanied by the Director General of Technical Affairs at IKMAA, as well as Mr. Ali Miran, met at the headquarters of ICRC in Geneva, the Regional Director for the Middle East, Mr. Fabrizio Carboni. The Iraqi delegation discussed the efforts of ICRC that support Iraq at the level of various humanitarian files, such as victim assistance, as well as providing assistance to establish rehabilitation centers and provide support for the victims, confirming on the measures provided by the Iraqi government in this regard, which would contribute to reducing the suffering of victims and reintegrating them into society again. At the time, the Director General of Technical Affairs/IKMAA presented a brief summary of his agency’s work in this field and the joint projects with ICRC. The meeting was also attended by the Director General of Administrative Affairs in IKMAA and the Head of RMAC-south of DMA, Eng. Nibras Fakhir Matroud and the Coordinator of Near and Middle East Operations of ICRC, Maria Solida Roed.
