The Director General of DMA, Dr. Sabah Hassan Al-Hussaini, confirmed that DMA is starting to develop the implementation plans related to the axes of the national mine action strategy for the years 2023-2028, which were previously approved by the Higher National Committee for Mine Action during the last few days.

Al-Husseini explained that this national strategy centered on the areas of demining, EORE, victim assistance and the promotion of national ownership which has already been accomplished in cooperation with GICHD that will be expressed through accurate technical plans with specific time limits in order to meet all the requirements and procedures related to it.

It is noteworthy that Iraq is an active member in three international conventions which are: Anti-Personnel Mine ban Convention (Ottawa), Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) and Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (IEDs) CCW, which necessitates harmonizing the objectives and axes of the general strategy and Iraq's technical and operational commitments towards these important international conventions.
