On Wednesday, The Minister of Environment, Engineer Nizar Amidi, as a result representative of the Prime Minister and the Head of the Supreme National Committee of Mine Action, announced through an official ceremony, the launch of the national mine action strategy for the years 2023-2028.

Amidi thanked the Esteemed Prime Minister, Eng. Mohammed Sheyaa Al-Sudani, for his sponsorship of the launch event of this strategy, as well as his thanks to the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), the Germany government and all other partners, appreciating their important and active role in the implementation of the national strategy, pointing out that the total area of ​​​​contamination registered for DMA data base since 2003, the date of its establishment, was more than six thousand square kilometers at the time when more than three thousand and seven hundred square kilometers were removed and cleared, indicating that the remaining contaminated area is currently more than two thousand square kilometers.

From his part, the Director General of DMA, Dr. Sabah Hassan Al-Hussaini, who presented a technical presentation on the implemented parts of this strategy, indicating that the solid administrative, financial and legal framework will facilitate the implementation and achievement of clearance in Iraq from these deadly dangers.

It is noteworthy that the national mine action strategy of DMA, which was launched today, revolves around the axes of clearance, victim assistance, awareness-raising activities, and national ownership for the years 2023-2028.

Where DMA has prepared implemented plans in the field of clearing the contaminated areas with economic, developmental, strategic and humanitarian priorities in general.
