On Wednesday, the Directorate for Mine Action discussed, through a specialized technical workshop for two consecutive days in Baghdad, preparation a draft of national strategic plan for disability for the years 2024-2027.

In his speech presented during this occasion, the Director General of DMA, Dr. Sabah Hassan Al-Hussaini, appreciated the role of European Union in supporting the establishment of this workshop, as well as the cooperation of the Implementation Support Unit of Ottawa Convention on Anti-personnel mines, in addition to the rest of the national and international partners, in making a national dialogue for which a final draft is to be prepared a national strategy for disability for the years 2024-2027, pointing out that DMA gives the file of victim assistance, the highest priority in the programs of DMA in general

From his part, the official spokesperson of DMA also indicated that the workshop included speeches by the head of the Commission of persons with disabilities and special needs in the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Dr. Thikra Abdul Rahim, the official of the European Union unit, a representative of IKMAA, and the head of Iraqi Alliance for Disability, Mr. Mowaffaq Al-Khafaji, as well as many other speakers, who confirmed all these words and interventions highlight the importance of strengthening participatory national action towards the completion of a draft of a completed national strategy of the National Plan for Disability.

It is noteworthy that DMA had launched, during the recent period, a national standard of victim assistance, which is considered the first of its kind in the world in compliance with the international mine action standards in force in this field.
