The Iraqi Ministry of Environment - Department of Mine Affairs celebrates the International Day for Awareness of the Risks of Mines and War Remnants
On Thursday, the Iraqi Ministry of Environment and Mine Affairs Department celebrated the International Day for the Risk of Mines and War Remnants through a central celebration held on this occasion, which is an international event that the Department celebrates annually on such a date.
The official spokesman for the department, Mustafa Hamid Majeed, explained that the celebration witnessed the presentation of a number of special speeches on this occasion, in addition to the presentation of a number of artistic and awareness-raising activities, pointing out that the representative of His Excellency the Minister for this celebration, the Director General of the Department of Mine Affairs, Engineer Shawkat Tayeh Masoud, addressed the most important success stories that His department achieved this during the last period, especially by clearing the land of the Nebras Petrochemical Project in Al-Zubair District within Basra Governorate, completely free of charge and without costing the state any financial sums as a result.
Majeed added that the Director-General of the Technical Affairs Department of the Mine Action Agency in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Mr. Ali Muhammad Amin, the Director-General of the United Nations Mine Action Service, Mark Colnoy, and the Deputy Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Iraq, Kovinda Prasad, presented their own words in This occasion, which emphasized in its entirety the seriousness of the mine affairs file, which requires everyone’s cooperation in order to cleanse all the remaining contaminated areas, as the celebration witnessed the presence of representatives from the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, represented by the military advisor to the President of the Republic, as well as the personal secretary of the President of the Republic and a number of gentlemen.
